Food Security & Peace Project

The Food Security and Peace project is working with the local community in Turkana West sub-county with a focus on Lokichoggio,  Nanam and Songot wards. The second pilot phase is being implemented in Kakuma ward by LOKADO our local partner. The program will have components in agriculture and livelihoods as well as a peace building to be implemented within community, selected schools and also covering cross border aspects. Both components will use sports and play as a mobilizing and learning tool. Community coaches and teachers will be trained on Sports for Development (S4D) approach to be able to facilitate delivery of the program. The project will also aim at supporting schools in acquiring sports equipment and creating safe play spaces within schools to enable children participate in value based sports.

Our most recent activity we supported Natiir small scale farmers, a locally registered CBO based in Lopiding, in ploughing and planting approximately 40 acres of land. This was done in partnership and support of Turkana County Government through Ministry of Agriculture who availed a tractor to plough the land. SOPA provided seeds and technical support for planting. It is expected that ongoing capacity building and extension services will be offered to the group of farmers.
